Aperitivo

The Amante Spritz

Amante 1530 is bittersweet and blood-orange red, a little rounder than the spritz you already know. Best made at 6pm on a hot step.

Ingredients

Method

  • Fill a wine glass with ice — all the way, not halfway.
  • Pour the prosecco first, then the Amante. It layers, briefly.
  • Top with soda, stir once, tuck the orange in against the ice.

Gin

Basil Gimlet

A gimlet with a garden in it. The basil goes in whole and gets bruised by the ice, so you get the smell before the taste.

Ingredients

Method

  • Drop the basil into a shaker and press it once with a spoon. Once.
  • Add gin, lime, syrup and ice. Shake hard for 12 seconds.
  • Double-strain into a chilled coupe so no leaf makes it through.

Tequila

Salted Paloma

The most refreshing drink in the world and the hardest to ruin. The pinch of salt isn't optional — it's what makes the grapefruit taste like fruit.

Ingredients

Method

  • Build in a tall glass over ice — tequila, lime, then the salt.
  • Stir briefly to dissolve, then top with grapefruit soda.
  • Don't stir again. Let the soda do the mixing.

Wine

Bicicletta

Red bitter and white wine, named for the wobble home. Low enough in alcohol to be a lunch drink, which is exactly what it's for.

Ingredients

Method

  • Fill a wine glass with ice. Add the Contratto, then the Pinot Grigio.
  • Stir gently to combine — this one wants to be cold, not aerated.
  • Splash of soda, orange slice, done.
